I heard the medicine trileptal is used for epilepsy. Is it also used for Bipolar Disorder? I heard the medicine trileptal is used for epilepsy. Is it also used for Bipolar Disorder?

jon_john1958 replied: "ask your doctor"

Jason K replied: "it's a newer anti-epileptic that really could be used in bipolar. i imagine it has a similar effect as tegretol. so i'd say yes"

dirtydirtygirlpsl replied: "Yeah, but it doesn't work."

Ladybug replied: "I've found that a lot of mental health meds were originally used or developed for epilepsy. When I read the inserts that come with my prescriptions several say for epilepsy. I suppose that is because they all work on brain chemistry."

Is it safe to take cold medicine while I'm on Wellbutrin and Trileptal? I'm on both those medications for my Bipolar II Disorder. 2 in the morning and 2 at night. I caught a cold recently. It's starting to wind down, and I've decided to tough through it. But I still have some annoying symptoms like sinus congestion. I'm also not so sure about taking Tylenol Sinus for that... Regular Extra Strength Tylenol was safe for the fever though. Anyone know?

Brady replied: "Hmm...I looked on wikipedia for both the drug's interactions. The most common ingredients in cold medicine were not listed so I imagine you would be fine. But for reassurance I would ask your doctor."

I take the medicines Trileptal, Paxil, Abilify. And I was wondering if taking a diet pill like xenadrine is ok? Are there any drug interactions with these pills?

Xawpnsr replied: "You should check this out this way that I tried. It works just amazing for me and I lost 15 pounds in 30 days. You can find more information at"

Teens getting high off Trileptal and Vicodin? I've heard of teen (and others, but mostly teens) getting high on cold medicine containing Dextromethorphan. I've heard from from some people that Trileptal and Vicoden (not together) are also used. Has anyone heard about this? How do those drugs affect you if at all? Thanks for all your help, I'm writing a paper on the subject and appreciate all help I can get. These are only things I have heard from friends, and I'm not sure if there even being used. The only one I know for sure is Dextromethorphan. Any others and any information about them would be great. I need quite a bit more information about teens and over the counter medicines and only have one drug I've heard about. Thanks!

Jaztastic replied: "That first one I've never heard of, but Vicodin, most definitely. It gives you a euphoric high that it very addictive."

C B replied: "Vicodin is a favorite among many who abuse prescription drugs. I don't know why.... I've gotten it for back problems before and it just made me sleepy and dizzy. Not exactly what I would call a great feeling. However, I read that it is the number one script abused by teenagers. (see article below)"

♥Smile & confuse people♥ replied: "Vicodin was popular at my school. A lot of athletes took them after practice, so they wouldn't feel sore and sleep through the rest of the day. Other remedies is using it for bad menstrual cramps or a bad hang-over."

robert y replied: "Here's one great suggestion! Pick up your telephone & dial your family physician's phone number & ask the exact same question you have asked above - and see if you don't get a better qualified answer than you ever could here. Good Luck."

Bethany Bates replied: "I wonder where Robert came by his insightful experience with your dilemma? Should we all go through and tell everyone to just call their doctor when we are answering a question that we have no business answering?"

Dr. KIA GCG don't care replied: "i'm guessing if that avatar is supposed to resemble you can't conceive is becuz you both have a vagina. You're going to need a penis"

Christy SD Nurse replied: "These meds have to effect on your ability to conceive."

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and i was wondering how long the medicine will take to take affect? I'm a 16 year old guy and i was just diagnosed with bipolar 2 disorder and my doctor just put me on trileptal two days ago and i take it once when in the morning and once in the evening. I asked my doctor this but i completely forgot what he told me. So does anyone know how long it will take for the affects of it to be felt? I think he said two weeks but i can't remember. anyway thanks:)

Eastwoods' Baby replied: "You should be able to tell a little in a week & fully effect in 2 weeks. Good luck!"

John Smith replied: "My "dad" is bipolar, and that was one of the likely possibilities of why he acted strangely and the marriage between my mum and him ended, leaving me to think I may be diagnosed with it in the future, I'm 15, how did they diagnose you? If you could reply to? Thanks in advance if you manage too."

Roxy5 replied: "It can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks, the latter being more likely than the former. That's if it works at all. This may not be what you want to hear, but treating bipolar disorder can be very complicated, and it can take months of trail and error to find the right med or combination of meds. It's frustrating, but worth it in the end. Be patient and keep an open line of communication with your doctor."

What medicine is good for RSD but doesn't have major side effects? I have RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) and sometimes my pain is unbearable. I used Neurontin for 8 years but then i started having double vision so my doctor switched me to Trileptal but its not really strong enough. help!

kimmers replied: "Morphine,Fentanyl,Oxycodone,Codeine are used for pain but these are narcotic drugs. Corticosteroids are also used to decrease the inflammation causing the nerve pain. One other option requires no or little medication for pain. It is called a TENS unit, this unit sends electrical signals to the pain receptor sights which helps decrease pain. You are able to control how fast and direct the signal is depending on your pain. I have used one for my back and it did wonders."

icesk8er replied: "I know how you feel about the medications having severe side effects. I have had RSD/CRPS for a year and a half, and unfortunately none of the medications worked for me and all of them had terrible side effects. Lyrica is a new medication on the market and often times works very well for people only with a few minor side effects. Lyrica didn't work for me, but then again none of them did. I finally had to have a Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) implanted because it was the only thing that helped my pain...I had to have several surgeries to get it to work because of the rare scarring condition that I have. It basically is a unit that uses electrical stimulation to block the pain signal from reaching your brain so you receive a pleasant slightly tingly sensation. It has been nice for me because there is no medication involved with the SCS so there is no awful side effects. I am not pain free, but 80% relief is great for me. Some people do get better pain relief though (up to 100%). You can look more into SCS's at Good luck!"

jeisea j replied: "Mirror therapy is a drug free/no side effect method of dealing with the pain and symptoms of crps. I've had crps for over 8 years and last year found relief from mirror therapy. In the UK a drug company has given over $100000 to place mirror boxes in pain clinics throughout the UK. Ramachandran, a USA neurologist discovered mirror box therapy. Now many countries are conducting research and know that it relieves the pain and symptoms of phantom limb pain and crps. It's also been used to rehabilitate stroke victims. I don't know what country you're from but in the UK go to, For Australia, USA and some European countries go to and click on the relevant links. I have a blog about what I do and have many links to research if you are interested. I suggest you click on Archives August for photos of what I d. Hope this helps you. If you need more help consider joining the google group linked to my site or post a question on my blog and I'll get back to you. jeisea"

Li-An V replied: "I have RSD in my neck and upper back, so I have pain through out my body. In the past three years I have tried a lot of pain meds and muscle relaxers, all of them non-narcotic. It has been real trying. My neurologist explained it is usually "hit or miss" with medications that treat the pain symptoms of RSD. Unfortunately, not much is known about RSD so many doctors have to try different meds and therapies to see if it works. Right now they have me on a combination of Neurontin and Flexeril which works okay but still makes me woozy. You just have to keep trying to find something that works. Just remember that different meds work differently for everyone, some may work for some people but not for others. Also remember that so far no one has found a definite treatment for the pain RSD causes so you may have to keep trying to find a good combination of meds or therapy. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you."
