Medicine Levaquin Information in Q&A
what is Levaquin 50 mg #10 used for treating as a medicine.com? I have had bladder infections and taken antibodies and the infection keeps coming back. Doctor put me on Levaquin.

jessiekatsopolous replied: "Say what? Moron...."

lo4us_p replied: "It's used for a variety of infections like lung, sinus, skin, and urinary tract infections. If your infection keeps coming back, talk to your doctor & see about having him/her put you on a different medication."

animals replied: "http://www.levaquin.com/about/levatab.pdf. Levaquin ( levefloxacin is a synthetic broad spectrum antibacteral drug. Bacteria in the body. I have used it and I did well on it"

Is it okay to take Levaquin with Glimepiride? I am a type 2 diabetic and take a combination of Glimepiride and Metformin. I currently have a head and chest cold and went to a local clinic for treatment as I have a severe cough and sinus infection and my doctor is out of town until next week. The clinic doctor prescribed Levaquin which seems to be an antibiotic. I checked the Internet for information and the Levaquin website says not to take in conjunction with Glipizide or other types of these kinds of medicines. I'm not sure what to do.

bungy_heart replied: "Quinalones (Levaquin) can 'potentiate the effects of Glimepiride', meaning that you could get a hypo by mixing them. There's no real way to know how much the effect will be, so I'd go back to your own GP. It may be OK for you if you monitor your sugars carefully, or it may be a complete disaster. The clinic doctor wouldn't know that you'd have to avoid this unless you told him/her. Having said that, this isn't the best place to ask this question - you have no idea who's answering it. Phone your doc or ask a pharmacist. I wouldn't be taking it until you're sure."

Gedalya replied: "Yes, Levaquin is an antibiotic. Is the prescribing doctor aware that you are on these other drugs ? If not, it's best to call him/her and ask if it's safe. If they do know about it and prescribed it anyway, it's very possible that the interactions between the two are only under certain conditions (i.e. renal failure) and therefore it's safe to use together if you don't meet certain criteria. I checked them against each other in my interaction guide and it showed no interactions. But, always follow your doctors directions . Here's an on-line interaction checker if you're interested.... ,,00.html?=SOTALOL Have a blessed day :-)"

medicine ..? Has any one else gotten really bad side effects from the medicine levaquin? If so what were the side effects and how long did they last?

Nurse Nice replied: "I personally have not had a reaction to Levaquin but I"m a nurse in the ER and have had some patients who were allergic to Levaquin. They usually got a rash with hives or had some N/V. Nothing too serious. Most patients that take Levaquin usually don't end up being allergic to it."

I have been taking levaquin an antibiotic for 19 days for acute kidney infection, dr wants 2 more wks on it? can that be dangerous?? but my er dr said stop it or i can run into pblms with taking it for an extended time. whatever that means. she said levaquin is astrong drug and to stop it now. my kidney dr, 3rd dr, said take a new medicine-macrodantin after I finish the levaquin and advised to check with the internist dr as to how long i should take levaquin. my 2nd dr the internist wants 2 more wks on levaquin; if i listen to him i will be a month on levaquin

futuredoc replied: "tell him what the other doctors said, and ask him his reason for not switching you to another mercine yes levaquin is an extremleyy strong drug, and can be dangerous if taken for an extended amount of time"

Cycman replied: "Actually, levofloxacin (Levaquin) is a relatively well tolerated drug and long-term use generally poses no great problems. What is more concerning is why your kidney infection has not improved after having been on this for 2+ weeks, so the question is, is the bacteria resistant to this therapy? The more appropriate thing is for you to talk to your doctors and ask them to confer and give you one united answer that makes sense and go with that recommendation."

nicelawn replied: "I was on levaquin 750mg for a total of 5 weeks when I had pneumonia and I was and am still fine. I just had a baby on X-mas eve and I had kidney stones the entire time I was pregnant and I was on Macrodantin for about 7 months. If you are seeing a urologist - listen to him/her . Take the macrodantin- that is what I was on for 7 months. You really only need to see your urologist for your problem"

can i drink alcohol when im taking Levaquin for my uti/ kidney infection? I have been on the medicine for about 5 days and i feel fine now and just wondering if i could have only like one beer or so when im on this medicine??

stevepitt2 replied: "You could probably get away with one beer."

Willow replied: "i really wouldn't. There are alot of medications that if mixed with alcohol it affects the heart and you could have a heart attack and die. we don't want that. so don't take any chances and just wait till you are off the meds to have a drink ok? please. i hope you feel better."

bonb49931 replied: "Probably wouldn't interact too much...but watch out. Drinking alcohol while you have a UTI or a kidney infection (even if it's being treated) could make it WAY worse. I went out drinking once after I thought I was all done with UTI for 4 days and woke up the next morning pissing blood. Not fun."

levaquin/ levofloxacin for prostate infection? Question Details: I took cipro 500mg for a month and half for prostatitis/prostate infection. the symptoms are 75% gone but 25% is still there such as abdominal pain, burning pain and discomfort after ejaculation. i feel these symptoms for 30 to 45 minutes. anyway today i went to diffrent doctor and explained him the problem. he prescribed me levaquin 500mg for 30 days. now the question is.. how strong is this medicine than cipro. and is levaquin a top of the line medicine to eliminate prostate infection? and are 30 tablets f levaquin too much to treat 25% of remaining infection or do i need atleast for 2 months?

Heather C replied: "I would take it for as long as your doctor prescribed it. Levaquin is a pretty strong antibiotic; not sure if it's any stronger than Cipro, but it might take care of some of the infection the Cipro wasn't able to kill. Check out webmd.com for drug information; it will tell you what Levaquin is primarily prescribed for and what kind of infections it's most effective on. Good luck, hope you feel better!"

ckm1956 replied: "Treating prostatitis is difficult. Both cipro and levaquin are in the same class of antibiotics. Levaquin covers some bugs that cirpo doesn't, but these aren't usually the problem in the prostate. It is very reasonable to use a different antibiotic the second time around. You may need to be on antibiotics a long time."

Do You Know About Levaquin ? Has anyone taked Levaquin ? Did you have any reaction to this medicine ?

S P replied: "it is an antibiotic. You need to take yogurt with it, so your good bacteria doesn't get killed. It can also upset your stomach."

LINDA R replied: "It is an antibiotic. I have taken it and have never had any problems with it."

How do you know if bronchitis is turning into walking pneumonia? A week ago I was told I had bronchitis. I was having coughing fits and a tight chest. Was put on an antibiotic (Levaquin) and 2 different cough medicines. However, every day I feel weaker and weaker when I come home. Starting to feel as if I have a fever and aches. Feel as if there are a ton of flat weights sitting on my chest - hurts right in the middle of my breast bones and then right under. Back hurts too. But I'm not coughing anything up. The coughs have diminished - only happens a little, but my chest is still killing me. Stomach is also starting to hurt. Is it getting worse and turning into walking pneumonia?

Slingo replied: "If you've had the bronchitis a week and have been able to sleep and been not feeling this weight and pain in your chest something new might have developed, like you suspect. Does the feeling of the weight make you scared to lie down, or is it extra hard to breath when you try to lay down? If so, you are probably being alarmed by the possible fluid in your lungs spreading out when you try to lay flat. If not maybe it could be that all the coughing has really worn out your body to the point where the muscles are aching. To be sure you should probably see a doctor if things feel worse, or you're unable to sleep or function normally."

helpinghand replied: "visit a doctor. That'st he best thing to do. It's better to fix it now than waiting for it to actually happen. Please visit your doctor"

Levaquin, possible side effect? Has anyone out there ever had heartburn due to Levaquin? I am currently on this medicine and a couple nights ago I woke up in the middle of the night with mild heartburn (it took 30 minutes, a half a glass of milk, and about 6 Tums to get rid of it). I was just wondering if this could be a side effect because this happened to me a couple months ago and when I started to think about it, I believe I was either taking or had just finished taking this medicine due to an ear infection.

quietspoken01 replied: "This medication can cause gastrointestinal problems...heartburn, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea. You should take it with food or a glass of milk, if you have had problems with it I always look up any new medication on the internet before I take it. The pharmacist usually put a paper in the bag with any new med that tells about it."

I've been on Levaquin 750 mg for 4 days now... still not feeling good.? I've been taking levaquin 750 mg. for 4 days for a sinus & upper respitory. I'm still feeling pretty bad. How will I know if this medicine is not working for me before I put a call into the doctor?

conim2002 replied: "Levanquin is an antibiotic. After 4-5 days you should start feeling better. It is possible that what you have is not an infection, but a virus, if that is the case an antibiotic will not help."

hockeymylover replied: "This drug has similar side effects to all the other fluoroquinolone antibiotics. The most common side effects include: Nausea, stomach upset, loss of appetite, diarrhea, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, or trouble sleeping. Levaquin is an antibacterial drug, (commonly used for respritory, sinus, urinary, ect.) so the wide spectrum will take longer to take affect that a normal PST would reach the cause of infliction. So simply put, it will take longer to feel better (I'd give it about a good week), but because it is an enhanced PST, you will be cured more effieceintly. Good Luck and feel better. =)"

amandarez73 replied: "You should be feeling much better by now - -I tell my patients that if they don't feel better in 2-3 days then to come back or call me. I would go ahead and let your doctor know; she may want to keep you on it for another couple days or switch it to another med. Of course, if this is a virus, the antibiotic will have no effect - but with a viral infection, you should be feeling better about a week after the first onset of symptoms."
